Frequently Asked Questions

Which audio formats can I convert?

You can freely convert between MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG and M4A. Common source files from voice memos, audiobook files, music rips and podcast recordings all work.

What is the difference between MP3 and FLAC?

MP3 is a lossy format — it discards parts of the audio that are hard for the human ear to detect, giving small files but imperfect quality. FLAC is lossless — it compresses the audio without discarding any data, giving files roughly half the size of WAV with perfect sound. Use MP3 for casual listening and FLAC for archiving.

What bitrate should I pick for MP3?

For voice recordings and podcasts, 96–128 kbps is plenty. For general music, 192 kbps is a good balance of size and quality. For high-fidelity listening, use 320 kbps (the maximum MP3 bitrate).

Is there a file size limit for audio?

You can upload audio files up to 500 MB. This is enough for around 5 hours of MP3 audio at 320 kbps or 45 minutes of uncompressed WAV at CD quality.

Can I convert audio without quality loss?

Yes, if you convert between lossless formats such as WAV and FLAC, no quality is lost. Converting from MP3 to FLAC is technically lossless — but the original MP3 compression artefacts are already baked into the audio and cannot be recovered.

Is it safe to convert audio files here?

Yes. Files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed on an isolated server, and deleted automatically within 4 hours. We do not listen to, fingerprint, store, or share any uploaded audio.

Will my ID3 tags (artist, album, cover art) be preserved?

When converting to another tagged format such as MP3, M4A or FLAC, basic tags (title, artist, album, year, genre) are copied across whenever the source file contains them. Embedded cover art is also preserved. Conversions to WAV strip tags because WAV does not support them.

Can I convert YouTube or Spotify audio?

You must first download the audio to your own computer through legitimate means — our converter accepts any local audio file. We do not offer YouTube or Spotify ripping because distributing copyrighted audio without permission is against the terms of service of those platforms.

What is the difference between sample rate and bitrate?

Sample rate (measured in Hz) is how many audio samples are taken per second — 44,100 Hz is CD quality, 48,000 Hz is standard video audio. Bitrate (measured in kbps) is how much data is used to describe the audio per second.

Why does my converted MP3 sound slightly different from the original WAV?

MP3 is a lossy format, so some very high frequencies and quiet background details are discarded during encoding. At 192 kbps or above, most people cannot tell the difference on typical headphones. If you need a perfect copy, convert to FLAC instead.
