Limits come from the owner's manuals for the Škoda Columbus, Audi MMI and VW Discover Pro. Not sure which system you have? Start with MIB1 / MIB2: it stays inside the limits of every MIB unit that plays video, so it also plays on MIB3.
Why does my video stutter or not play?
Phone and camera videos are usually 1080p or 4K at 10–20 Mbit/s. MIB1, MIB2 and Audi MMI 3G decode at most 720×576 and 2 Mbit/s, so the picture stutters, freezes or stays black while the sound plays. The MIB1 / MIB2 and MMI 3G profiles keep the video under 2 Mbit/s including sound.
The manuals allow 25 fps. In one Discover Pro owner’s tests, 60 fps and 30 fps files did not play, while 29.97 fps did. Our profiles convert anything faster to 25 fps (30 fps on MIB3).
Newer iPhones and Android phones record in H.265 and HDR. No MIB unit lists H.265 in its manual. Every profile re-encodes to standard 8-bit H.264 (Xvid for Audi MMI 3G).
Films with AC-3 or DTS 5.1 sound often play silently on the Discover Pro. The converter always writes stereo sound: AAC for MP4, MP3 for Audi AVI files.
All of these systems show video only when the car is stationary — Škoda's manual says the picture switches off above 5 km/h, while the sound keeps playing. This is a safety feature, and in most countries the driver may not watch video while driving.
For MIB1, MIB2 and Audi MMI 3G use FAT32: it works everywhere, but a single file can be at most 4 GB. Audi MMI 3G reads SD cards up to 32 GB. MIB2 and MIB3 also read exFAT and NTFS. Keep file names short, without special characters:

How to convert videos for VW, Audi, Škoda and SEAT
Drag & drop or browse. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM and other formats, up to 2 GB.
MIB1 / MIB2 for 2013–2020 cars (recommended), MIB3 for 2020+ cars, or Audi MMI 3G for Audi models from 2009 to 2016.
Download the converted file, copy it to a FAT32 USB stick or SD card and play it while the car is parked.
Supported input formats
Upload videos in any common format: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, WMV, FLV, MPEG, 3GP, VOB, TS and more, including H.265 (HEVC) and HDR videos from phones. The converter re-encodes the picture and sound to the codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate your infotainment system can play.
Frequently asked questions
Which profile should I choose?
If you are not sure, choose MIB1 / MIB2. It stays within 720×576, 25 fps and 2 Mbit/s — the limits in the manuals of the Discover Pro, Škoda Columbus and Audi MMI — so it plays on every MIB unit that supports video, including MIB3. Choose MIB3 only for 2020+ cars when you want Full HD.
Why does my video stutter in the car?
Usually the bitrate or resolution is too high for the unit. Phone videos are 10–20 Mbit/s in 1080p or 4K, while MIB1, MIB2 and Audi MMI 3G decode at most 720×576 at 2 Mbit/s. 60 fps and H.265 (HEVC) files also fail. Convert with the MIB1 / MIB2 profile.
Why do I hear sound but see no picture?
Either the car is moving — the picture switches off above about 5 km/h — or the file uses a format the unit cannot decode, such as H.265, 10-bit HDR or a bitrate above 2 Mbit/s. Convert the file and try again while parked.
Can I watch videos while driving?
No. VW, Audi, Škoda and SEAT systems show video only when the car is stationary and keep playing the sound while driving. In most countries the driver is not allowed to watch video while driving.
Does my car play video files at all?
On 2013–2020 cars, video files usually play only on the navigation units: VW Discover Pro, Škoda Columbus, SEAT Navi System Plus and Audi MMI. Composition, Discover Media and SEAT Media System units play audio only, according to owners. RNS 510 plays only video DVDs, and RNS 315 and RNS 310 have no video. MIB3 cars play MP4 from USB.
What USB or SD card format should I use?
FAT32 works on every system, with a 4 GB limit per file. Audi MMI 3G reads SD cards up to 32 GB. MIB2 and MIB3 also read exFAT and NTFS.
