Important Information
Your SD card or USB drive must be formatted correctly for the infotainment system to recognize it. Use FAT32 for vehicles up to 2017 (file size limit: 4 GB per file). For newer models (2018+), exFAT is recommended as it supports larger files. Always format the drive before copying videos — do not just delete old files.
By default, VAG infotainment systems only play video while the vehicle is stationary (parking brake engaged). For video playback while driving, software unlocking (VIM) is required using diagnostic tools such as VCDS, OBDEleven, or similar. This feature is intended for passenger use only. The driver must always keep their attention on the road. We do not endorse or encourage distracted driving.
If your video stutters or freezes during playback, switch to the HD Ready (720p) profile. MIB2 and older processors have limited decoding power — 720p at 5 Mbps offers the best balance between quality and smooth playback. Avoid 1080p on MIB2 systems as it can cause dropped frames and audio sync issues.
Some older infotainment units struggle with special characters. Keep file names simple: use only letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores. Avoid spaces, accented characters, and names longer than 64 characters. Example:

Frequently Asked Questions
Which profile should I choose?
If you are unsure, select MIB2 / 2.5 (HD Ready). It works on approximately 90% of VAG vehicles manufactured from 2015 onwards, including Golf 7.5, Octavia 3, Superb, Tiguan, and Passat B8. Only use MIB3 if you have a 2020 or newer model with confirmed Full HD display.
Why does my video not play in the car?
The most common causes are: wrong file format (use our converter to fix this), USB/SD card formatted in NTFS instead of FAT32 or exFAT, file name contains special characters, or the file exceeds 4 GB on a FAT32 drive. Try the HD Ready profile if Full HD does not work.
Can I watch videos while driving?
By default, VAG systems block video playback while the vehicle is in motion. Video in Motion (VIM) can be enabled using diagnostic tools like VCDS or OBDEleven. This is intended for passenger use only.
What USB/SD format should I use?
For vehicles up to 2017, format your drive as FAT32 (max 4 GB per file). For 2018 and newer models, use exFAT which supports larger files. Always format the drive fresh before copying videos.
My video stutters during playback
Switch to the HD Ready (720p) profile. MIB2 and older processors have limited decoding power — 720p at 5 Mbps provides the smoothest playback. Avoid 1080p on older systems.
Does this work for all VW Group brands?
Yes. Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT, and CUPRA all use the same MIB infotainment platform. Select the profile that matches your system generation, not the brand.
